Rivet nuts, also known as blind rivet nuts or self-locking nuts, are a type of nut applied to thin plates or sheet metal. They have a circular shape, with knurled teeth and a guide groove on one end. Their working principle is as follows: the knurled teeth are pressed into the prefabricated hole of the sheet metal. Generally, the diameter of the prefabricated hole is slightly smaller than that of the knurled teeth of the rivet nut. Under pressure, the knurled teeth of the rivet nut are squeezed into the plate, causing plastic deformation around the prefabricated hole. The deformed material is squeezed into the guide groove, thereby achieving a locking effect.
In terms of material classification, rivet nuts include: free-cutting steel rivet nuts (Type S), stainless steel rivet nuts (Type CLS), stainless iron rivet nuts (Type SP), and copper/aluminum rivet nuts (Type CLA). These types are respectively applied to different service environments. Their specifications usually range from M2 to M12. There is no unified national standard for rivet nuts, and they are often used in chassis cabinets and the sheet metal industry.
Product Advantages
  1. The back of the plate remains completely flat after installation;
  1. Compact and exquisite, suitable for all electronic or precision equipment;
  1. High torque resistance;
  1. Easy installation, requiring only simple riveting operation;
  1. Serialized specifications, able to meet various design requirements.
Application Technical Guidelines
  1. Type S rivet nuts are made of free-cutting iron, which undergoes heat treatment and surface treatment; Type CLS rivet nuts are made of free-cutting stainless steel, with no surface treatment required.
  1. The hardness of low-carbon steel plates must be less than 70RB, and the hardness of stainless steel plates must be less than 80RB.
  1. They are suitable for plates of various thicknesses, with a minimum thickness of 0.8mm. During use, the tail number Z corresponding to the A dimension must be determined based on the plate thickness and nut specification. Users should select and order products according to the tail number in the table based on the plate thickness.
  1. The hole diameter must be precisely controlled, processed with a tolerance of 0-+0.075mm. Punching is preferred for hole making. Generally, the nut should be installed from the "cut" side of the plate. The installation process must be completed through "riveting" operation, and under no circumstances should it be knocked in by impact.
